The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles' Vice President of Mission
Advancement (VP) role is a wonderful opportunity for the right
individual to achieve both impressive success and personal
satisfaction. Reporting to the Chief Mission Advancement Officer
(CMAO), the VP will be charged with fundraising, organizing,
managing, executing campaigns and projects throughout the
association, including specific branches, capital campaigns and
major gifts. The VP will be motivated, dynamic, and effective in
fundraising and in establishing and strengthening partnerships and
collaborations, both externally and internally. The VP will both
fundraise and have primary responsibility of major gift fundraising
and supports the process that leads branch executives, volunteer
and team leaders to implement activities that ensure fundraising
goals are met or exceeded. A successful VP will manage and steward
a portfolio of corporate and individual relationships and work as a
team player to drive growth that achieves our mission and revenue
goals.
This position is accountable for significant revenue targets and
oversee members of the Mission Advancement Team. In addition, the
VP will demonstrate effective leadership and mobilization of
volunteers, increase corporate relationships, and build awareness
for the Association. Exceptional organizational and written and
verbal communication skills are necessary for this position, as is
the ability to multitask, meet deadlines and achieve results in a
team environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree preferred,
from an accredited college or university with relevant major
coursework.
- Five or more years of direct fundraising experience, preferably
in major gifts (6+ figures)
- Demonstrated success in fundraising and nonprofit
leadership.
- Proven record of success in account management and developing
corporate partnerships that result in exceeding revenue
targets.
- Outcome-driven, with the ability to respond to changing
circumstances and priorities.
- Ability to manage and motivate groups and individuals.
- Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and
interpersonal skills.
- Proven record of successfully leading and managing teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Partner closely with board of director members, branch
executive directors, board of manager members, and other key
volunteer and staff leaders to develop and implement
project-specific plans to achieve goals including the following
responsibilities for each campaign and/or project:
- Create the campaign plan, clearly identifying and monitoring
strategies, and assuring that the campaign remains on schedule and
achieves the minimum financial goals.
- Facilitate scheduling, meeting preparation, and meeting
execution for any/all committees.
- Develop and finalize the case for support, campaign name and
theme, all related campaign collateral materials, and other
communication pieces, including presentation decks, FAQ documents,
proposal templates and more; work closely with the project team to
incorporate architectural renderings and project cost details for
capital campaigns.
- Organize and engage in early cultivation and solicitation
events and one on one meetings with key stakeholders.
- Develop and manage prospective donor tracking lists, matrices,
and pipeline reports with request targets and strategies
- Develop strategic cultivation and solicitation plans and
personalized proposals.
- Facilitate the development of a comprehensive donor recognition
plan, and guide the preparation of naming and other recognition
opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with the development team and related
administrative staff members to ensure continued strength in annual
and branch fundraising revenue during the campaign.
- Conduct prospect research and complete research profiles of key
prospective donors.
- Meet monthly, quarterly, and annual fundraising goals.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Establish and cultivate partnership relationships in alignment
with funders and collaborators in order to secure individual,
corporate, foundation, and other institutional
contributions.
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with
organizations, municipalities, and other entities who share an
alignment with the YMCA mission.
- Partner closely with board of director members, branch
executive directors, board of manager members, and other key
volunteer and staff leaders to develop and implement
project-specific plans to achieve fundraising goals.
- Provides strategic leadership, creating and executing major
gift fundraising strategies including donor stewardship and
cultivation.
- Develops an annual business plan to meet financial targets
clearly identifying and monitoring.
- Serves as a key member of the Mission Advancement team
influencing and driving strategy, relationships and best practices
to accomplish financial, community and board development
goals.
- Responsible for developing and stewarding a portfolio of
relationships from the corporate community to provide funding for
our mission.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proven track record of developing and completing capital
campaigns, closing charitable contributions, meeting and exceeding
revenue goals, and measuring outcomes.
- Strong strategic planning, organizational, and implementation
skills.
- Demonstrated results in securing, activating, and managing
sponsorship, donor, cause marketing, or other corporate partner
relationships.
- Strong verbal and written presentation skills, including the
ability to tell compelling stories and deliver persuasive
presentations.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with
colleagues and prospects, building respect, consensus and
trust.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communications skills (both
verbal and writing), including the ability to make presentations;
comfortable articulating ideas and concepts to others; ability to
respond to questions and comments quickly.
- Successfully lead and manage projects from inception to
conclusion.
- Familiarity with the principles of a capital campaign and
philanthropy.
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for the mission of the
YMCA.
